This three-day interactive course explores mandala-making as a way to find identity and meaning through the lens of the life cycle. It is taught in a unique format incorporating lectures, meditation, music, and experiential mandala art-making. ​The course is suitable for professionals in the fields of psychology, mental health counseling, social work, creative arts therapies, and pastoral care.

Learn key life cycle phases

Be able to use various mandala theories to explore developmental, psychosocial, physiological, and transpersonal aspects of the life cycle as inspired by human development theorists including Freud, Jung, Erikson, Kellogg, Cohen - and more.

Understand your clients' artwork

Use archetypal symbols, themes, movement, and color theory in relation to the mandala to inform the therapeutic process. Be able to ask clients directed questions informed by the mandalas to work through difficult life experiences and cultivate personal insights.

Engage in your own self-care

Gain hands-on experience using mandalas to understand life cycle concepts in relation to creative theory and self-expression. Use mandalas as a tool to assess personal development and states of consciousness. Visually conceptualize cycles that occur across the lifespan.

This unique workshop is hosted by Florida Art Therapy Services, LLC located in sunny Fort Myers, Florida. The comfortable space will allow you to take a deep dive into the world of mandalas.  Carol Thayer Cox, MA, ATR-BC-Retired, REAT and Amy Bucciarelli, MS, ATR-BC, LMHC have over 40 years combined experience working with mandalas.

Carol Thayer Cox

Carol has been on the faculty of George Washington University, Vermont College of Norwich University, and Pratt's Institute's School of Art & Design. She is co-author of Telling Without Talking: Art as a Window into the World of Multiple Personality and co-editor of Portrait of the Artist as Poet and Saying Goodbye to Our Mothers for the Last Time. She also has written numerous professional journal articles and book chapters. Carol was founder and director of MUSE, a performing arts troupe that taught psychological theory through art, dance, music, and poetry. Specializing in color, archetypal imagery, and symbolism as reflected by different states of consciousness, she has been presenting papers and offering workshop for 30 years on mandalas and the cycle of human development from a Jungian perspective. 

Amy Bucciarelli

Amy has been working with mandalas for over a decade. Trained under Carol Thayer Cox, Amy has used mandalas for personal self-exploration and as an effective art therapy tool with a variety of patients including those with substance abuse issues and eating disorders, and those seen in settings such as psychiatric behavioral health and medical art therapy. Amy has written several blogs about mandalas and presented at national conferences about the use of mandalas in art therapy. Amy is currently on faculty of the University of Florida's Center for Arts in Medicine teaching courses about arts in health, compassion, creative theory, design thinking, and innovation. She is a Board-Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and Qualified Supervisor. Amy also runs Art & Acupuncture workshops and Therapeutic Hand Papermaking workshops.
